We're finally getting some rain here on the Pere Marquette which is fantastic. While we're seeing more and more steelhead in the upper river, the rain should really help get these fish moving out of the big lake and into the river. Fall steelhead are the most beautiful and aggressive fish in the river. They take flies well and will often chase them right to the boat.

Our salmon run was late this year but has finally peaked. We have good numbers of fish all over the gravels in the middle and upper river with some still waiting in the holes. Fishing is very good and should remain so for the next week or two. We're starting to see a few steelhead around, but need rain before we get a big push.

Fish are all over the middle river on the gravels and fishing can be good if you hit them right. There are still good pushes of fish coming up the lower river and we're still catching some, but mostly they are shooting upriver pretty quick and it helps to have a sunny day so that they hold in the deep holes.

We've got kings in the lower and middle river and some spotted in the upper river as well. Good numbers of fish are holed up in specific locations and it really helps to know where they are to catch them. With the recent rains we're expecting another good push of fish soon. They are taking Thunderstick Jrs., big flies that throw off a lot of vibration, and egg patterns. We're starting to see a couple on gravel, but full time spawning season is still around the corner.
